An Isolation of Listeria Monocytogenes from Blood Culture of a Woman with Abortion





Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes infection is not a common disease and the usual clinical manifestations are septicemia and meningitis. one of the rare infections is placental infection. In Korea, 11 bacteriologically proven infections reported were either septicemia or meningitis. The authors isolated L. monocytogenes from blood cultures of a 29-year-old woman with , onion. The isolate showed typical morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics of L. monocytogenes and was sevar lb. The isolate was susceptible to ampicillin, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, penicillin G and tetracycline, by the disk diffusion test. The patient received antimicrobial treatment of chloramphenicol, cefadroxyl and tobramycin. The patient recovered without any complication.
